Penumbra, an atmospheric installation of work by Rick Amor, creates a Romantic otherworld of the imagination where enigmatic creatures and out-of-scale figures are both strangely familiar but curiously different. For over 200 years, the Mornington Peninsula has attracted a roll-call of Australia’s finest landscape artists.  This unique concentration of artists to a single region has created a rare opportunity to survey some of the finest landscape works produced in the last two centuries, and in many respects, to trace the development of landscape painting in Australia. Bringing together fifty exemplary paintings, watercolours and drawings by twenty-eight artists, from Australian and international collections and includes masterpieces such as Eugene von Guerard’s Castle Rock, Cape Schanck 1875. this landmark exhibition is the culmination of ten years of research by the MPRG into the region.

This biennial exhibition was established in 1988 to commemorate the work of colonial gold and
silversmith, Ernest Leviny, who lived at Buda. This fascinating display endeavours to celebrate and
continue the traditions of the metalsmith craft, by placing the works in a contemporary context.
The Contemporary Australian Silver and Metalwork Exhibition is unique to Australia, as it is the only
continuing national survey exhibition of large-scale silversmithing with an emphasis on holloware.

The dinner will feature some greats of Victorian sport including Australia’s Lamb Ambassador ‘Slammin’ Sam Kekovich as guest speaker.  Sam Kekovich’s presentations are always anecdotal and extremely humorous as he brings together all his best stories and the characters he has encountered over the last 30 plus years of his involvement in football, and life. Also featured on the night will be Australian Cricket Legend Dean Jones, jockey, commentator and Frankston ambassador Simon Marshall and a magic and trick golf shot show from Australasian Tour professional Henry Epstein.

The Montalto Sculpture Prize $20,000 acquisitive award and Pennon Hill people’s choice award $1,000 (non-acquisitive). Is open to all artists working in any medium.
The Montalto Sculpture Prize was conceived by John & Wendy Mitchell, a further extension of their vision for a winery that combined estate grown premium wines with award winning architectural design and one of the best restaurants on the Mornington Peninsula. In 2003 their passion for supporting the visual arts was realised with an annual sculpture prize.
Montalto Vineyard and Olive Grove provides a picturesque outdoor gallery that embraces all aspects of the vineyard, from the orchard and olive groves to the herb garden and wetlands. Curated by Neil Williams, the sculptures are creatively sited throughout the 50 acre property. The collection has now become an integral part of Montalto, adding interest and creative energy to an otherwise idyllic scene.

For over ten years, thousands of people have lost themselves in the walls of corn in The Enchanted Maze Gardens annual Maize Maze. This year we are continuing the tradition of intrigue and fantasy with a Carnival themed Maize Maze with special carnival themed activities for the children over Easter.

Those who love a challenge will delight in the many false trails and dead ends that are all part of the twisting and turning paths. Even the best navigators will be tested as they negotiate their way from the ferris wheel through the balloons and big top, around the carousel and finally exiting after a wild trip along the roller coaster.

Planted in late November, the Maize Maze is created each year using GPS technology and 100,000 stalks of corn in the 2.5 acre field located at the bottom of The Enchanted Maze Garden property.

As the first comprehensive overview of the career of John Ford Paterson, this exhibition will showcase Paterson’s twilight landscapes and coastal scenes including major paintings of Sorrento, Half Moon Bay, Berwick and Fernshaw. Paterson was much admired by his contemporaries in Melbourne, during the 1880s and early 1900s, for his continued commitment to translating the beauty of nature into his landscapes, which captured ‘something evanescent’ within the poetic twilight.

Many of the works in the exhibition are held in the descendant’s collections and have not been seen in public since 1932. Additional artworks of the talented extended Paterson family will also be included: Charles and Hugh’s designs for their decorating firm created some of the most iconic interiors of the late 1880s, and artworks by Esther and Betty Paterson who were highly successful modernist artists in the fields of society portraits and illustration.

John Ford Paterson: A family tradition will be accompanied by a fully-illustrated comprehensive catalogue.
