About Frankston
| Frankston City is situated on the eastern shores of Port Phillip Bay approximately 40 kilomemetres south of Melbourne. The municipality covers an area of about 131 square kilometres from Seaford Wetlands in the north, to Mt Eliza in the south, and the Western Port Highway in the east. The western boundary of the City is made up of about 10 kilometres of coastline along Port Phillip Bay.
Frankston City is strategically placed as the activity centre for the Mornington Peninsula and the nearby south east growth corridor of Melbourne. Currently, Frankston City provides regional shopping, education, health, community service, financial, recreation and leisure and entertainment facilities for a population catchment far greater than its municipal boundaries.

Major Projects and Developments
In 2005, the municipality embarked upon a bold agenda with a number of major developments and projects completed, and the commencement of several more significant projects.
Kananook Creek Boulevard
Work is currently underway on the Kananook Creek Boulevard project. Following extensive community engagement, a number of responses have been incorporated into the final concept, which includes:
- Shared footpath and cycle way
- Boardwalk adjacent to the Creek, with places to sit
- Revegetation and tree-planting
- An open plaza area which provides for events, community activities and outside dining
- A wide upper level promenade
- New creek walls on the east bank of the Creek
- Improved boat moorings
- One-way vehicle traffic between Beach and Wells streets, and Playne and Davey streets
- A new vehicle and pedestrian bridge connecting Davey Street to Long Island
Safe Boat Harbour
Frankston City Council has now approved the preparation of public tender documents with a probity plan for the Frankston Safe Boat Harbour project and also set out a timeframe for the delivery of the project.
The Safe Boat Harbour will include the following facilities:
- Regional boat ramp with five ramps and dual landings
- Wash-down, rigging & derigging areas
- Boat refuelling area
- Minimum of 30 public overnight berths
- Up to 300 permanent wet berths
- Up to 400 dry storage berths
- Up to 60 short-stay accommodation units
- Associated parking and turning areas for vehicles and trailers
- Outdoor recreation facilities such as public promenades, pathways, play areas
- Restaurant/café, marine related retail /commercial – pleasure boating, chandlery, bait & tackle
- Public wharf for pedestrian ferries and leisure cruise boats
- Potential tourist & commuter ferry platform with deepwater access for short term mooring
- Marine-related services, workshop & boat repairs, sale of boats & equipment
- Accommodation for local clubs and emergency services
