In January 2008, after 7 years on the Rye foreshore, Sand Sculpting Australia relocated to an exciting new venue - the Frankston Waterfront.  With Frankston beach, the pier and Kananook Creek as a backdrop, the area was transformed as 3,500 tonnes of sand was carved into scenes from favourite childhood ‘Fairytales & Fables’ from around the world.

The new location proved to be a huge success, and due to the overwhelming interest shown in the exhibition, our next event will be extended to start on Boxing Day 2008 and finish on Anzac Day weekend 2009.  This will allow holiday makers the opportunity to visit what promises to be another ‘must see’ event.

We will again be inviting sculptors from the Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, UK, Russia, Singapore, Canada and the USA to join with their Aussie workmates to form a team of 21 artists that will carve the sand to ‘life’.  These creative and very talented people will work tirelessly for nearly 3 weeks to bring into being enormous yet finely detailed and lifelike sculptures.

This year, we are embracing the popularity of all things dinosaurian, and our sculptors will be creating a valley of creatures from the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods.  This was a time in the history of the Earth when dinosaurs were the dominant life form and roamed almost the entire planet, including Australia.  Our exhibition will feature several of the dozens of dinosaurs that inhabited our country when it was part of the super-continent know as Gondwanaland.  Integrated with the sand sculptures will be our regular activities to keep the whole family entertained.  Try your hand at sand sculpting in our Workshop area, or learn more about the art by chatting to our resident sculptor.
During school holidays and on weekends and public holidays, there will be many more activities available including Sand Art, Sand Bottles, and Gingerbread Decorating, as well as roving entertainers.

On a number of weekends throughout the exhibition, we will be co-ordinating with Frankston City Council to link in with some very special events.  Please note that this event is family oriented and child friendly, therefore it is a smoke free venue and alcohol is not permitted.  Likewise, dogs are not permitted within the exhibition (guide dogs, hearing guide dogs and guide dogs in training excepted).
