One of Australia's most brilliant young conductors teams up with one of Australia's finest horn players for this superb program. The overture, by the composer of Scheherazade, is a colourful potpourri of Russian folk songs. Richard Strauss' father was one of the great horn players of his time; in this concerto, written when the composer was 78, he produced a loving tribute to his father's instrument and to the style and grace of Mozart's concertos. The concert concludes with Mozart himself. His final symphony, the Jupiter, is sunny and graceful, yet how inadequate those words are to describe one of the rickest and most beautiful works in all of music.Pre-concert talk at 7:00pm.
