Description

Public Sculpture by Morgan Jones

Artist Interpretation:
Early Light forms part of the present series of sculptures produced by Morgan Jones, with the Sun being the central idea and inspiration. Morgan believes the meaning of the sculpture is in the eye of the beholder – ‘An object occupies its own space, is an entity in its own right, and if I were to try and pin it down to one word it would be Freedom.’

Located TBC

  • Materials: Early Light is fabricated in Corten steel.

About the Artist:
Morgan Jones is a self-taught sculptor who based his skills on those acquired as a model maker when he a child. For much of his career Morgan worked in the area of installation, although during the past twenty years he has reverted to object making. Originally he carved figuratively in wood and stone then moving into abstraction and assemblage, with his work now exclusively made in steel. Working and exhibiting for just over sixty years, Morgan terms himself as an abstract sculptor influenced by music, poetry and great literature. For as long as Morgan can remember, stretching over 60 years, he has had jazz playing in his studio. The rhythmic construction of his work owes a great deal to what his generation would term cool jazz.
